How to “Get Backlinks” – Linkwheels?
Sometimes it doesn’t even need to be a new way to build backlinks, it can be an old technique with a little twist. I’ve done this and made thousands of dollars. We took linkwheels (and yes they have been around for a long time) and modified them a bit. We tested the process to validate that it worked then sold for $97.
I tell you this so that you understand that you need to sort through all the stuff your read on the internet about building backlinks, find what seems like common sense, test it to see if it works. If you see good results…rinse and repeat.
On To Building Backlinks
This first technique is one of the oldest yet least used because of the time it takes. It is also one of the most effective at not only building backlinks but also getting traffic to your site. I told you sold a product that taught people how to build modified linkwheels. What I’m going to give you is the short version of the course.
Here is what a traditional linkwheel looks like:
What you should notice is that each site links to the money site “your blog” as well as linking to each other. The logic behind this is that each site will not only pass on link juice to the money site but also the other blog, article or web 2.0 sites. This is a very basic example but it should illustrate the basic premise. The main issue with this is that eventually the search engines determined that they believe this is cheating and developed algorithms to detect it. It’s not much that they penalize you as it is that they just discount or ignore the links all together. So basically you do all the work and do not get any of the results.
So why on earth would anyone want to do this? Take a look at this next example:
This is one of the new and improved linkwheels. Couple of things that you will notice that are different: The first being that only one site links to your money page…the theory behind this is that all the link juice (authority) will be funneled through the article/web 2.0 site to your money page. This is supposed to protect the money site from any penalty if the linkwheel gets discovered.
Lets think about this a minute….I put an article on ezinesrticles and then link it to my money site. I then build a linkwheel around the ezinearticle and build links to it in an effort to increase its authority in the search engines eyes.
So now Mr Google says look what we have here…a linkwheel we can not have any of that so we’ll just ban the ezinearticle but ignore the money site it links to…Come on now…does that even make sense..No
Here is the next thought…if my money site were going to be delisted, penalized or otherwise thumped by Google because of the backlinks pointing to it, then I could just build some really crappy links to my competitors site and get their sites banned… Like that really happens.
I digress….
Whatever technique you use to build backlinks to your site needs to appear natural…not forced. Here is one bit of advice from Google:
“It’s important to clarify that any legitimate link building strategy is a long-term effort. There are those who advocate for short-lived, often spammy methods, but these are not advisable if you care for your site’s reputation. Buying PageRank-passing links or randomly exchanging links are the worst ways of attempting to gather links and they’re likely to have no positive impact on your site’s performance over time. If your site’s visibility in the Google index is important to you it’s best to avoid them.”
Building a modified linkwheel starts off by submitting content to article sites and web 2.0 properties. All of these submissions will have backlinks pointing to your money site and to other article/web 2.0 sites. You just need to do this intelligently. Why do this…what are the benefits of a linkwheel:
- First – you get backlinks from sites that Google views as authority sites.
- Second – you get traffic from these same sites
In the past we have targeted certain keywords and held 8 of the top 10 search results. This means that when you searched for that particular keyword Google would show the money site plus a number of the article/web 2.0 sites. Just imagine how powerful that it…each time someone clicked on a search result they landed on your content, then when they clicked on one of the links they were taken to another one of your pages. Think that make you look like an authority in that niche?
I’d love to talk more about this but its time to wrap this up. This is just one way to build links and get traffic to your sites.
What you see below is one of our modified linkwheels.
